Hybrid - oncampus + online asynchronous - for Fall'21 grad term - Course subtitle: Narrative and Comparative Media - Course Description: In this course we will study the intersection of narrative theory and different forms of media from literature through contemporary digital media including video games. The course begins with an introduction to core concepts in narratology - the study of how stories work. Though these concepts have their history in connection with older forms of expression, we will consider the ways they allow us to understand how stories are told across different media. We will add in consideration of film and television on our way to studying storytelling in video games and other interactive forms. The course will also consider the ways that new media change the rules of how stories are told and how audience expectations change in response.
