    Academic Advisement and Registration:
Students should consult their academic advisor for all questions related to advising and course selection. See University catalogue for additional information on academic advisement, and/or the Colleges' academic advising web site(s), or the Academic Support Center

ATTENTION Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students:
Seats in appropriate course offerings are often "saved" for freshmen and transfer students. As a result, some course sections (i.e. designated as "Freshmen Only Sections") may be prematurely marked CLOSED in order to save the necessary seats for the Orientation and Registration Program.

Use of the Internet and Kodiak log-in instructions.
As noted in selected course descriptions, some courses will be taught entirely on-line. Students may be expected or required to use the Internet and the College's Internet-based, Kodiak, course delivery program. Registered students may access the Internet from computers located on the main campus in Springfield or from their own personal computers.
The comment, "Online w/Kodiak", means a student does not have to physically attend classes on campus. The course instruction is delivered 100% via the Internet - either synchronously or asynchronously.

However, we are more likely to be a victim of a white collar or corporate crime, causing greater financial loss, on average than conventional crime victimization. This course explores both organizational and criminological theories that help explain elite criminal offending, using real world examples and case study analyses. Some of the topics to be covered are financial crime, environmental crime, political and state crime, malfeasance by religious organizations, medical malpractice, cybercrimes, as well as the intersection of organized crime with white collar crime.

ST: English Villages in Fact and Fiction - Thoughts of England conjure images of a village green, a cricket pitch, the spire of a church, the village hall, and, of course, the local pub. These are the settings for an annual cycle of cultural traditions: village fêtes, cricket matches, flower and produce shows, bonfire nights, Remembrance Day services, and the Christmas pantomime. This course will explore those traditions and their enduring significance in daily life in England, both in fact and fiction. The fictional aspect comes courtesy of The Archers, a 15-minute daily BBC radio drama that has depicted English village life in nearly 19,000 episodes since the program's premiere in 1950. The course will explore the cultural phenomenon that is The Archers, with its daily audience of five million listeners in the UK and millions more online around the world, as well as the current renaissance of "audio drama" through podcasts. This course meets Elements of Culture requirement "CA."

ST: Nigeria: Giant of Africa - In the next three decades, Nigeria's population will surpass the USA as the world's 3rd largest. It is also a major oil exporter, a global advocate for democracy, civil liberties and conflict resolution in Africa and the world, and an influential contributor to the arts -- especially in filmmaking, music, and literature. At the same time, Nigeria has the largest number of people living in extreme poverty of any country in the world, and suffers from serious inter-ethnic tensions, religious antagonisms, and high levels of corruption. This course explores the values, attitudes and beliefs of the diverse peoples of Nigeria. Students will develop an understanding of the country's history and the development of its political and economic systems. An appreciation for contemporary life in Nigeria will also be explored through an examination of daily life (family, cuisine, religion, music, etc.) as well as current events and challenging issues impacting the nation's well-being and future. This course meets Elements of Culture requirement "C."

Hybrid-"On campus & Online Synchronous" ST: Czech Republic - The Czech Republic is a country inextricably woven into the history and cultures of Europe and the West, but it is also a country defined by the struggle for a national identity and politics. This course will explore how Czech legends, literature, and art speak to and catalyze Czech political history and give rise to the modern day Ceska Republika. This course meets Elements of Culture requirement "CA."

ST: The African Mediterranean: From Perpetua to the Portuguese - This survey course provides a sweeping overview of the history of the African Mediterranean from the Roman Empire and the rise of Christianity to 1500 CE. It begins with a look at North Africa during the Roman Republic and the region's incorporation into the Empire, then follows the region's inhabitants as they coped with the rise of Christianity, the disintegration of the western Roman Empire, and the Arab conquest (c. 300 - 700 CE). The second half of the course looks at the new classes of African rulers that sprung up during the Middle Ages and the ways in which they interacted with their contemporaries (c. 700-1500). By the end, students will be able to articulate the multi-faceted history of the region in the medieval period and understand the ways in which the history of North Africa expands their understanding of the Middle Ages.

ST: Advanced Materials: Engr Science Proc. & Design - Design Elective - Prereq. ME 309 or equivalent - This course builds on the foundation presented in ME 309: Materials Science and Engineering. This course covers the science, technology (fabrication technologies) and state of the art in atomistic, molecular and multiscale design on advanced materials performance. We will cover issues in mechanical design that address stiffness limited design, strength limited design, and facture limited design. Additionally, we will explore the use of materials at high temperatures and the durability of these materials in corrosive or oxidation environments. Lastly, manufacturing processes will be discussed in terms of introducing selection strategies based on the structure developed during the manufacturing and the concept of embodied energy and the impact the process has on our environment.

ME 492-40/592-40 - ST: Multiphase Flow - Multiphase flow (particularly liquid and gas phase) have many industrial applications such as fuel cells, heat exchangers, condensers, air conditioning, and process plants. The single-phase pressure drop in fluids is well understood and can be predicted over a wide range of operating conditions. The liquid- gas two-phase flow pressure drop, however, is not well identified and has been studied only for a limited range of operating conditions relevant to particular areas of interest. The physics behind this type of transport phenomena is very complicated to be modeled with simplified mathematical expressions. In this course, hydrodynamic and heat transfer correlation for multiphase flow will be discussed.
