Hands On Learning Environments
Sleith Hall, home to the Department of Biomedical Engineering, has recently completed a $12.8 million renovation and expansion. Our students use our laboratories for classroom learning, design projects, research experiments, and to study.
Wet Lab
The Physiology Lab, or Wet Lab, has capabilities to analyze and study cells and various aspects of human physiology. There are several microscopes, including a brand new fluorescence microscope! We can also perform particle analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy, and Atomic Force Microscopy. Our facilities also allow us to perform mechanical testing on material samples, including dynamic testing of biological specimens such as cartilage and tendon.
Instrumentation Lab
The Instrumentation Lab is the home base for all Biomedical Engineering students! Students use this space to do homework, gather with teams, and even let off some steam with a quick game of basketball using the Human Performance equipment in the room!
This computer lab is equipped with 12 computer stations, each with its own power generator, oscilloscope, and AD Instruments data acquisition system.
Hospital Suite
The Hospital Suite is designed to simulate a hospital room environment with medical diagnostic equipment, exercise physiology stations, and an interactive simulation mannequin to give students real-world experience practicing their technical skills in the clinical setting.
